THE PRIMARY ELECTION
The primary election is June 30th – do you have a plan to vote?
What is a Primary Election?
The Primary Election is when we decide who will be the Democratic candidate for the general election in November. This year’s election includes statewide candidates (Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and Treasurer). It also includes the race for US Senator, CU Regent for our Congressional District, US Representative, State Senate, and Colorado House of Representatives. See below for more information about candidates who will be on the Democratic Primary ballot.
Who Votes in a Primary Election?
If you are a voter who is a registered Democrat, you will receive the ballot for the Democratic primary. Registered Republican voters receive the ballot for the Republican primary. Unaffiliated voters receive both the Democratic and Republican primary ballots but they can only vote one of those ballots.
How do we vote in the Primary Election?
First, check your voter registration status HERE. Make sure you are registered as a Democrat if you want to vote the Democratic Primary ballot. Make sure that your mailing address and your physical address are correct – both of them matter! If you know someone who needs to register to vote or update their voter registration, they can do so in any of the following ways:

In Person: Complete the paper form and return to the Secretary of State’s Office

Voter Registration Drive

Voter Service Polling Center during an active election cycle, through Election Day
Ballots Mailed to Active, Registered Voters: Non-military/non-overseas voters will be mailed their ballots the week of June 8, 2026.
Ballots may be obtained and cast until 7:00 pm on Election Day. Remember: The County Clerk must be in possession of the ballot by 7:00 pm on Election day. Postmarked ballots that are not in possession of the County Clerk by 7:00 pm on Election Day will not be counted.
Affiliation Change Deadline: June 8 – Last day for voters who are affiliated with a political party to change or withdraw their affiliation if they wish to vote on a different party’s primary election ballot.
How to cast your mail-in ballot:
There are many ways to return your Mail Ballot. Once you’ve voted, place your ballot into the secrecy sleeve that is provided to you within your ballot packet, and seal the return envelope. Finally, sign and date the back of your return envelope and you’re ready to return your ballot.

Affix postage to return envelope and place your ballot in the mail OR

Drop off your ballot to any Summit County Polling Center on Election Day from 7:00am-7:00pm

Early In-Person Voting: Begins Monday, June 22, 2026 in Breckenridge. Early voting at the polling center, 103 South Harris Street, Breckenridge, will be open the following dates/times:

Monday, June 22 through Friday, June 26, 2026 from 8:30am-4:30pm

Saturday Early Voting Day: June 27, 2026 from 8:00am-12:00pm (4 hours)

Monday, June 29, 2026 from 8:30am-4:30pm

Early Voting & Voter Services are not available on any Sunday
